Cusat50 Audio Interconnect - phono cableAudio Interconnect Cable: Cusat50

The Cusat50 optimises the conditions for your equipment to perform at its best!

Other interconnect cables can add colorations to the music - or even induce radio frequencies on the signal. It is true! They can and do change the sound, but the reality is it isn't real!

Some "High End" or "Audiophile" interconnect cables are purposely designed to have high capacitance in the knowledge (or ignorance) that it can reduce the phase and gain margin of the equipment driving it. The output from a CD player, phono preamp or any other source for that matter (unless purely passive) is the output of an amplifier stage. Lightly loaded with cable capacitance the amplifier stage will perform as intended, but more often than not, when more heavily capacitively loaded, the source's amplifier stage will run out of phase margin, and possibly gain margin too. High current output stages suffer even more. This results in a phenomenon called "ringing" where the amplifier stage loses its "grip" and adds an amount of oscillation to the signal's transient response - this is highly coloured. At worst the amplifier stage can be forced into oscillation which may not damage the stage, but it can then transmit a very distorted AM radio signal that can upset equipment performance, or even badly demodulate other AM radio signals so that you are plagued by radio interference. Some of these cables also run without any shielding, inviting radio signals into your system, which even if they're not demodulated, do alter the perceived sound quality. Put it to the test if you own any of these types of interconnect cables: you may be hearing your music "larger than life" but you will also hear harshness or brightness where it ought not to be. Conversely, if your source is designed to protect itself the sound will be dulled down. In either case it can lead to a floating sound-stage, instruments and voices can sound unnatural, tempo may drift or lag and, overall, listening can become fatiguing.

The Cusat50 interconnect is designed to be a minimal capacitive load "seen" by your sources so none of the above can take place. It's also designed with highly effective shielding so that no radio interference can enter your system via it. This results in good sources being able to perform to their best. It will also show up any source that wasn't worth your money! Remember, good references are important in your high fidelity system to enable your optimisation to yield the results you're after, and with the Cusat50 you have an excellent reference interconnect cable to guide you to that goal.

KitGuru Must Have Award"This cable is one of my favourite on the market and with the Grado headphones I have found it helps to smooth out the treble while still delivering bags of fine detail... John, who works with Graham, designs these cables for the enthusiast audio community, and his knowledge of cabling is second to none, the guy handled similar duties for the BBC for a good portion of his working life."

[Grado PS1000 Headphones & Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear Amp Review, KitGuru, by Zardon, March 2011]

The Cusat50 interconnect is a directional interconnect cable. In "double blind tests" and in our opinion it can be shown to bring great stability to the stereo image and solidity of sound when used in the direction marked, especially with highly post-produced music such as rock and pop. We invite any consumer group to evaluate this claim!

The Cusat50 interconnect gets the Cu part of its name because all conductors are copper: the signal conductor, the shield braid and the 100% foil shield. As most recorded music is mastered to give the best results using interconnects using copper conductors it stands to reason that copper will reproduce it much the same.

The properties of the Cusat50 interconnect should also benefit digital and video sources so they're available as single cables too - see our shop pages for details.

Cusat50 Audio Interconnect - phono cableAnd finally, do you see the phono plugs we use? You can buy a set of four of these same plugs elsewhere for not much less than one of our complete interconnects - the only difference is ours don't have a name printed on them - the Cusat50 interconnect is truly a great bargain!
